What is Total Hip Replacement?

This procedure can be used to treat patients experiencing severe pain and limited mobility due to excessive wear and tear in the hip joint.

It is the surgical replacement of a damaged and non-functional hip joint—caused by conditions such as hip dislocation, advanced osteoarthritis, or avascular necrosis—with artificial materials.

In what cases is a Total Hip Replacement necessary?

A total hip replacement may be necessary in cases of severe pain in the hip joint, inability to perform daily activities, or limited mobility. Although it is generally performed on patients over the age of 60, it can also be performed on younger patients when necessary.

How is total hip replacement surgery performed?

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and lasts approximately 2 hours. The damaged joint surfaces are removed and replaced with artificial joint components made of various materials (metal, ceramic, etc.).

How durable are the prostheses?

Although this varies depending on the patient’s age, weight, and physical activity level, modern total hip replacements generally last 15–20 years or longer.

What are the benefits of total hip replacement surgery?

After hip replacement surgery, patients are relieved of pain, regain their mobility, and experience a significant improvement in their quality of life.
